"Lake Como Landing" in an evocation of mood, a celebration of life. Fishing boats are moored at the landing; the pattern they make strikes me as whimsical, light-hearted. The village of Varenna, with its ancient stone buildings, seems to float on the waters. Stucturally, the curved diagonal thrust of the landing stairs neatly divides sea from village and mountains. I feel the same exhilaration when I look at "Lake Como Landing" today, and remember that luminous late-afternoon sun, as I did the day I was first bewitched by this vision. |
